Please use chipkit_mx3 ID for board option in “platformio.ini” (Project Configuration File):

board = chipkit_mx3
You can override default Digilent chipKIT MX3 settings per build environment using
board_*** option, where *** is a JSON object path from
board manifest chipkit_mx3.json. For example,
board_build.mcu, board_build.f_cpu, etc.

board = chipkit_mx3

Debugging
Debugging currently does not support Digilent chipKIT MX3 board.
